Basin Elementary School

About us

Welcome to Basin Elementary! The Basin Elementary faculty and staff are eager to begin another school year where we can all work together as a community of learners. We are committed to offering all students an exceptional education with enriching activities and support in a safe and nurturing learning environment. We are focused on student achievement and personal growth.

As a district we are committed to providing our students with meaningful content knowledge that focuses on application to real life learning as well as curriculum that deepens students’ understanding of standards. In addition to our goals on raising academic achievement and strengthening our students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills, we will continue to emphasize student voice and leadership opportunities.  Furthermore, another area that we are continuing to emphasize is STEM education. Throughout the year, both in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities, students will be challenged with STEM related activities and opportunities to apply their knowledge.

As a school, we value continuous improvement and take great pride in providing our students the best possible education.  The faculty and staff strive for excellence and have high expectations for themselves and their students. We are committed to providing your students with meaningful learning experiences that will help promote academic as well as social growth and prepare them to be contributing citizens in tomorrow’s world.

Events and Highlights

STEM Night

Basin Elementary hosted a Family STEM Night in collaboration with the Idaho Children's Museum, which brought a planetarium onsite for parents. Over 85 families attended and engaged in a variety of activities, including stargazing, exploring constellations, meeting with a NASA ambassador, learning about the solar system, and observing the night sky through telescopes. Both students and parents shared positive feedback, expressing how much they enjoyed learning and participating in the hands-on activities together.

Fall ICOE

Fall ICOE

During Fall ICOE days, students engage in lessons that align with grade-level science, math, and STEM standards. Each grade level participates in activities covering topics such as camouflage and survival, erosion, watersheds, solar ovens, and leaf classification.

snow school

Snow School

On January 10th, teachers were trained by Winter Wildland Alliance facilitator, Kerry McClay, in snow science lessons which connect topics such as watersheds and water content with winter recreation.  Each grade level K - 6 participates in outdoor learning days at the ICOE where they snowshoe, collect and measure snow samples, and learn more about our watershed, wildlife, and hydrology.

SkiDay

Ski Day

Basin students had an exciting and memorable field trip to Bogus Basin! The day was filled with outdoor adventures as students enjoyed activities like skiing, snowboarding, and exploring the beautiful mountain landscape. With expert instructors guiding them, the kids learned about winter sports, snow safety, and the wonders of nature in the snowy environment.

The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to bond, stay active, and gain hands-on experiences that went beyond the classroom. Everyone left with big smiles and lasting memories from an unforgettable day at Bogus Basin!

jog

Jog-a-thon

On Friday, October 25th the Basin Schools PTA hosted their annual jog-a-thon fundraiser with the students at Basin Elementary in grades K to 6th. The students were able to spend the afternoon outside enjoying the warm weather with classmates and help raise money for the PTA to use to help support the school.

All the students who participated in the jog-a-thon received a free T-shirt thanks to our generous sponsors of the event. Students who ran the most laps and who were the top pledge earners will be recognized at an awards assembly on November 12th at school.

“It is always really heartwarming when I make calls to ask companies and individuals to sponsor this event how generous people really are.” said PTA member and jog-a-thon chair Lyndel Strong “We had a successful event and were able meet our fundraising goals thanks to these generous sponsors and the pledges individuals so willingly gave to the students.”

The jog-a-thon was made possible by sponsorships from the following businesses and

organizations:

Title sponsor: Idaho City Chamber of Commerce

Gold Sponsor: 6B Storage & RV

Silver Sponsors: DF Development, The Boise Ridge Riders, Perpetua Resources, and Idaho Power

Bronze Sponsors: Scott Carlton and Nelson Custom Milling

This year our grand prizes were donated by Mores Creek Recreational Foundation.

Idaho Central Credit Union also made a donation towards the prizes for the students.

Ice World

Ice World

Our elementary school had an exciting and educational visit to Idaho Ice World! Students were given the opportunity to experience the thrill of ice skating in a safe and welcoming environment. The trip allowed them to learn new skills, improve coordination, and have fun while engaging in physical activity.

Throughout the visit, students were guided by friendly instructors who taught them the basics of ice skating, from gliding smoothly to making sharp turns. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable memories. It was a wonderful opportunity to step out of the classroom and experience a new activity while fostering a sense of confidence and sportsmanship.

We are grateful to Idaho Ice World for providing such a fantastic experience, and we look forward to more exciting adventures in the future!

BSU Microelectronics

Basin Elementary students had an opportunity to problem-solve and explore the world of circuits with the Microelectronics Education and Research Institute with Boise State University. Mrs. Tammie Ogden, 4th grade teacher, said her students had a great time joining their Snap Circuits. All were able to get their lights to turn on and the fan to spin! Younger students in 1st grade were able to explore how circuits work. Mrs. Sara Pimley said, “This early interest can lay the groundwork for future skills in STEM fields, fueling their potential to become the next generation of inventors and problem-solvers." Special thanks go to Ms. Ester Emery, Basin’s 2nd grade teacher, for organizing the onsite classroom presentations from the research institute. Each grade level was able to participate in lessons and activities, where students designed, built and analyzed simple circuits using snap circuits and explored key concepts such as circuits and conductivity.  Students had a great time learning with hands-on activities.

Lincoln Beggs, 1st grade, was very excited to report, “I learned a lot about how electricity works. We were able to connect our circuit to turn on a light. We even got a fan to spin!” Clara Pimley, 1st grade, added, “"I liked seeing how I could make the fan work and change colors.  I also liked working with my partner and investigating circuits."
